About the Journal

Publishing is one of the priorities of activity of the Holy See of Etchmiadzin. Particular attention is paid to periodicals. The official organ of the Holy See, the Journal of Religious and Armenological Studies "Echmiadzin" is the direct successor to the traditions of the journal "Ararat"(1868-1919), which was published until the establishment of Soviet power in Armenia. the monthly periodical "Echmiadzin" was founded in 1944 at the instigation of the Catholicos of All Armenians George 6th Chorekchyan (1945-1954). In 1956, Catholicos Vazgen the 1st (1955-1994) allocated a separate office to the journal, formed an editorial board, and in order to ensure continuous and unhindered printing, on October 15, 1961, he restored and completely renovated the technical terms of printing house of the Holy See, founded by Catholicos Simeon Yerevantsi in 1771.

Since 2018, by the initiative of Catholicos Garegin, the 2nd works of the journal "Echmiadzin" are being coordinated by the publishing department of the Holy See.
